Quiet Your Mind & Listen To Your Soul
It's like when you've eased into the flow - shift happens. Anyone else, or just me?
The ebb and flow of life.
It's important to note that even the slightest change affects the mind and body. Most times, we take the natural ebbs of life to understand that, well, life happens. Then, we adjust our pattern and keep moving forward. But sometimes, the ebbs can seem overbearing, especially when the change is more frequent, unwanted, or slows us down.
In full transparency, this week was more ebb than flow for me. I didn't have the energy to do anything more than what was absolutely necessary. I found myself at times overthinking the little things. Every idea proved to be too complex, and every task felt overwhelming. Slowly my energy was becoming more and more depleted.
I learned a while back that when my energy is low, it is time for sacred solitude to quiet the mind and listen to the soul.
"Silence is essential. We need silence, just as much as we need air, just as much as plants need light. If our minds are crowded with words and thoughts, there is no space for us." — Thich Nhat Hanh
If you're always speaking, when are you listening?
We all silently talk to ourselves - reflecting on past events and planning future scenarios.
Sometimes the hardest part is to pause, give yourself space to quiet your mind, and tune in to hear your soul speak.
You can start to listen to your soul and quiet the mind with meditation, which teaches you to become more aware of what that Divine voice within sounds like so that it can guide you to reconnect with your highest self and restore your energy.
No. 1 Tune in
Awareness of your body is the foundation of listening to your soul. Find a quiet space to sit comfortably on the ground and be still. Close your eyes and take a few cleansing breath cycles - inhale through your nose, exhale through your mouth. You are focusing only on your breath. If you notice that your thoughts begin to wander - no worries, it's natural - bring your awareness back to your breath and this moment without judgment.
No. 2 Trust yourself
Allow yourself to be. Breathe - inhale through your nose, exhale through your mouth. Acknowledge what you're sensing or feeling in this moment. Breathe - inhale through your nose, exhale through your mouth. Let go of any self-analyzation or interpretation of your current situation. Breathe - inhale through your nose, exhale through your mouth. You are cultivating a safe space for self-discovery. So, there's no wrong or right. It simply is. Trusting yourself opens your heart space for Divine love and healing.
No. 3 Listen
Quietly ask yourself, what is it that you want me to know? Then, breathe - inhale through your nose, exhale through your mouth. You are allowing yourself at this moment to listen for the Divine voice within to confirm what's right for you.
How will you know when your soul is speaking?
The body will be at ease, and you will feel safe. You will have a true sense of clarity and heartfelt relief. You may feel a desire to take a nap, allowing the body and mind not only to rest but to realign with Divine intention. Tears are another sign of your inner voice speaking, allowing for purging and releasing what no longer serves.
The soul speaks in unique and genuine ways to who you are.
The main thing to remember is that it directs us to truth and love when the soul speaks.
"Love is a living, breathing thing. There is no need to force it to grow in a particular direction. If we start by being easy and gentle with ourselves, we will find it is just there inside us, solid and healing." - Thich Nhat Hanh
Give yourself grace and be gentle with yourself. Accept that nothing in life is permanent. Everything has an end. So when you're in an ebb phase, find the time to quiet the mind and listen to hear the soul speak. It will guide you and energize you for your new beginning.
